Executive Director and Co-Owner
Jean is a lifelong educator, parent, grandparent, Executive Director and co-owner who brings several decades of experience to Houston to partner with her niece, Charlotte MacVane, to found her third school! Jean is most passionate about the high quality education of preschool children, and she ends her (third) retirement to enjoy another educational setting. Jean well knows how to bring excellence in preschool education to families in the Greater Heights. She invested nearly 15 years as founder, co-owner and principal of a private elementary and preschool in Florida with an enrollment of nearly 400 children, her first Kenworthy School. That school was accredited and commended by the Association of Independent Schools of Florida (AISF) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). While head of that school, Jean served on the SACS and AISF accreditation committee, visiting and assessing applicant schools.
After her first retirement Jean served as an educational consultant assisting churches, organizations and corporations in establishing private and parochial schools. (Her consultancy included an old Delaware Episcopal Church who chose to establish a preschool.) Additionally, Jean was a consultant to a national corporation assessing opportunities to bring a private school network (preschool to grade 12) to the greater Tampa area. The corporation sponsoring the study has charter schools in several states.
Jean began her educational career teaching Head Start (preschool) and then first grade. She was a reading specialist, a teacher of children with learning disabilities. She was a school counselor, an educational diagnostician, and a school principal for elementary and middle schools. She was a program Evaluator for a local Department of Special Education. And she was principal/headmistress of three Episcopal Schools before establishing her own private school. Jean’s doctoral candidacy was awarded by Auburn University in School Leadership and Curriculum. Her MEd is in Education as is her BS, both from Texas Christian University. Jean earned certifications as teacher, administrator, principal, counselor, special educator, educational diagnostician, and reading specialist.
Jean has trained extensively in Conscious Discipline with Dr. Beckey Bailey through seminars and workshops. Her commitment to an enriched and appropriate preschool curriculum results in specific curriculum guidelines she authored based on the Frog Street Preschool Sequence integrated with Conscious Discipline.
